CDDWeb Help

At CDDWeb we try to make sure that your website runs smoothly and efficiently by utilising the best value for money available in the latest server technology. We also support Home and Business PC users at a variety of levels.

We highly recommend that new computer owners and beginners invest in a suitable book such as the Windows for Dummies series. It is important to get to know a little about the Windows Operating System as well as how to use program software like Microsoft Word or Internet Explorer, to perform specific tasks such as writing letters or email or browsing on the internet. It will also help you learn to maintain your computer, find your way around and enjoy exploring the potential of your computer.

Basic Security for your Home PC

One of the biggest issues we come up against is the use of PC's without proper protection. To protect the sensitive electronics in your computer, you should always connect to your electricity supply and to your phone line through a surge protector.

Your Windows Operating System should be kept updated to ensure the latest security patches are downloaded and installed.

As a minimum we also recommend that you have installed and running:

You can download an excellent free firewall (for personal use) from ZoneAlarm

ZoneAlarm also do an excellent range of Security Software including antivirus available from Amazon.co.uk!

AVG is a good (some say the best) FREE antivirus suite is available from Grisoft.

We are currently using AVG Internet Security 7.5 (PC) & McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007 (PC)

For more info check out Ad-Aware SE (free for personal use) and Spybot Search & Destroy. Both consistently detect nasties that some internet security suites do not! Take care not to just delete all the items detected, but anything labelled virus, trojan, data miner, tracking cookie, adware etc can be deleted or quarantined. If in doubt you can always get information by 'googling' the offending article or call me.
